If you are using an off the shelf WordPress theme or you have coded your own and you are now adding WooCommerce to your site, you would have probably come across the really annoying problem of the WooCommerce page styling problem. In most cases it is merely that the sidebar has dropped down, but in some, the entire page styling has disappeared. This is due to WooCommerce using its own page styling and CSS classes, and it also drops the sidebar outside your container area.

But do not fear there is a way to fix this ghastly problem.

You theme may have the something like the following ID tags and classes in your page.php file:

...the loop goes here

<?php get_sidebar(); ?>

Simply put you have placed the content and the sidebar within a container. However, viewing a shop or product page the sidebar has moved outside the container div. To fix it, you first need to tell WooCommerce off and send it to the corner. Open up your function.php file and at the end before the closing ?> add the following code which tells WordPress to remove the content before and after functions which WooCommerce was so nice to include:

remove_action( 'woocommerce_before_main_content', 'woocommerce_output_content_wrapper', 10);
remove_action( 'woocommerce_after_main_content', 'woocommerce_output_content_wrapper_end', 10);

Once that has been removed, you can then add it again with your own rules:

add_action('woocommerce_before_main_content', create_function('', 'echo "
";'), 10);
add_action('woocommerce_after_main_content', create_function('', 'echo "
";'), 10);

The

bit would be the ID tag that you have used, i.e.

which you would need to change accordingly.

I did have an occasion where I recently did this but still had a problem. It was a conversion of an HTML site to WordPress and the divs used would not show up on a WooCommerce page no matter what. To get them to show I had to add all of the div tags that were included before the content div on the page file. Having done this, the sidebar was still dropping down as it was then being pushed outside the entire container area. To fix this problem I had to take the opening div tags before the content and put them in the header.php file and then close them in the footer.php file. So instead of:

<?php get_header(); ?>

...the loop goes here

<?php get_sidebar(); ?>

<?php get_footer();
?>

in the page.php file, it became:

<?php get_header(); ?>

...the loop goes here

<?php get_sidebar(); ?>
<?php get_footer(); ?>

Which forces the sidebar back into the container div.

I hope this helped.

There seems to be some confusion for a lot of people (I was even confused for a while) about the difference between a Facebook Like Button and Box. So I would explain this in more detail so you can make a better decision as to which to add to your site. You can of course add both, but the difference between the two is very important to know so that you can place them in the best position.

Facebook Like Button

This is basically a Share button and can be added with other share buttons from different social media sites. A Share button, or the FB Like Button is very important to your site, more so than the Like Box. When a visitor comes to your site and they read through your content, they can share that page with their friends. They simply click the share button and once they have done the necessary stuff such as login to their account, the link to your page is sent to the feed on their social media profile.

To be more specific, Visitor A comes to your site, reads a blog post they want to tell their friends about and so they click on the Facebook Like Button (or Share button) and the URL, title and image of your blog post gets sent straight to Visitor A’s profile page. Visitor A’s friends see the entryon their timeline and they click through to your site to read the article making them Visitor B (etc. etc.). They like it and want to share it with their friends and so Visitor B clicks on the Like Button and shares it on their profile timeline.

See why I say this is very important to your site?

Facebook Like Box

This is specific to people with Pages (Fan Page). The difference between your personal profile and your Page is that the Page will have a Like button on it. You don’t send friend requests, people Like your Page. The Facebook Like Box displays information about your Page on your site. So you can display the stream/feed from your Page’s timeline and the faces of people who have liked your FB Page. People can also like your FB page directly from your site instead of going to the Page itself.

In a Nutshell

To put it all into basic terms, the FB Like Button is about your visitor sharing your website with their friends, whereas the FB Like Box is about directing people to your FB Page.

The Like Button can come in different formats also. It can be as per the image shown above with the Like button, how many people have liked that page on your site and you can also display their faces, or you can make it a simple icon as you can see if you look to the left of your screen (where it says Share…).

I hope this has cleared up some confusion for many people.
